Programs & Activities

The Dean's Scholars support a wide range of activities and programs that encompass social, recreational, and academic areas.


Friday Lunches

Friday lunches are held every Friday at noon in a specified room on campus. Students receive a free lunch from any of the off-campus food establishments, including Pizza Hut, Chipotle, Schlotzsky's, etc. While lunch is being served, a speaker from the scientific community is invited to speak on the topic of their choice. Questions ensue after the short presentation.

Fort Davis Trip

Every year, the Dean's Scholars take a weekend trip to McDonald Observatories in Fort Davis, Texas. Activities include tours of the many observatories, a Star Party, and hikes in scenic West Texas.

The Dean's Scholars play any and every sport against other on-campus student organizations.

Middle School Enrichment Program

The Middle School Enrichment Program (MSEP) is one of the Dean's Scholars most active programs. It was founded with the intent to keep middle school kids interested in science. Every other week, students get the chance to go to area middle schools and perform science demonstrations. This program requires about 2-3 hours per week in order to plan and prepare the demos and to visit the classes.

Port Aransas Trip

During the spring semesters, the Dean's Scholars take a weekend trip to the Marine Institute at Port Aransas. Students are invited on UT owned boats for a marine excursion and opportunities abound for independent exploring of the beach and the small town

Research

All Dean's Scholars are invited to do research with a faculty member. Our program assists students in finding a suitable faculty researcher in preparation for his or her senior thesis.
